Mountain of Venus & Speakeasy

Mountain of Venus creates a refreshing blend of musical styles that quite obviously pay homage to their influences in rock and folk music alike. Shylock and guitarist Jody Cohen sing in beautiful harmonies and contemplative lyrics that may initially challenge the listener with an added layer of thoughts that accompany exceptional musicianship. Mike Pascale and David Gesualdo, lead guitar and bass respectively, seem always poised to take off once the stories are sung, while Eric Barry slaps a deep groove from the drums in the back.

Rather than trying to imitate the original (as is typically the case with tribute bands), Phix attempts, in our own humble way, to recreate the special energy and spontaneity of a live Phish concert.

Kynda

It all started with Sunday nights at Reilly's Lantern Pub, here in Orlando, Florida. The name of the project was "4:20." Sole purpose: to fill the empty nights with music, and provide a place for like minded people to gather without having to pay a cover charge! It started with three players. Lots of Grateful Dead. Lots of Dylan! Tiny crowds. Before we knew it, the Dead tunes began to segue into Phish tunes. Players replaced players. More players were added. The level of playing rose. Attendance rose. The Phish tunes began to segue into original tunes. The pub gigs grew into a scene, and spread to larger CLUB gigs, which in turn has lead to the slow leak of our brand of "jam" out of Orlando and in to other cities. If you've ever enjoyed a Grateful Dead or Phish show, or any band that refuses to play the same set list twice, AND you like to get up out of your seat and stir up some energy through dance, then you'll love an evening with Kynda.

Warsaw

The Celtic/Reggae/Punk crossover band, Warsaw Poland Bros, formed at a college in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA, in 1990. Before creating their own record label, Invisible Mass Records, they recorded three independent albums. Named after the capitol of Poland, Warsaw Poland Bros is a brotherhood comprised of Chris Poland (b. 11 April 1970, Downey, California, USA; vocals, guitar, drums, saxophone), Aaron Poland (b. 9 June 1974, Maxwell, USA; vocals, guitar, drums, trombone), and Jay Kalk (b. 11 January 1975, New Ulm, Minnesota, USA; bass, vocals). With Sugar Ray a popularized cross-genre rock hybrid created in the mainstream, Warsaw Poland Bros seemed to be a ripe commercial prospect and were picked up by Carolyn Records. Fortunately, Battleska Galactica provided them with a small commercial reward. At the same time, they concentrated on their live work, opening for such diverse bands such as No Doubt and Blink-182, and have built a loyal fan base. Their fortunes were transformed when "Stoney Boady" was featured on MTV's Road Rules. The single was housed on the band's fourth album, "Pimpin' on Crutches", which went on to sell 10,000 copies. The following album, "Dub Confrontation" continues to showcase the diverse talent within the band and was appreciated by all the loyal fans.

Tishamingo

Ah, yes, the scene in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”: the three main characters stop at a crossroads in rural Mississippi where they see a black man standing with a guitar. The man asks if they’re headed to Tishomingo, a place where he heard people can get paid for singing into a can. They pick him up, and they all go to a radio station in Tishomingo. There, under the moniker The Soggy Bottom Boys, they record a song that becomes a huge hit. In Tishomingo, four drifters became a band. As it turns out, four guys who now call Athens, GA, home, thought the name fitting for their own band. They altered the spelling a little bit and Tishamingo was born. Maybe they aren’t exactly drifters – more like long-time friends originally from Tallahassee, FL – but their brand of blues-based rock ‘n’ roll calls to mind a Southern flavor and boasts soulful singing, honest lyrics, and two-guitar interplay reminiscent of the bands that have inspired them. Take the rock, blues, and the soul music of the late ‘60s and ‘70s, mix in a healthy dose of childhoods spent in the swampy wetlands of northern Florida, and you have a concoction that pleases the ears.

But Simplicity's instrumental chops and improvisational skills don't take a back seat to anyone. Working as a unit through collective improvisation, they always keep their audience and themselves guessing at the edge of their seats. Since their formation in 2000, Simplicity have accomplished many things. They have amassed an impressive local following by virtue of playing almost every major venue in Detroit and it's surrounding suburbs. In 2002, Simplicity were honored with 3 Detroit Music Awards nominations: Best Songwriter, Best Instrumentalist, and Best Live Act. In the summer of 2002, Simplicity co-hosted and headlined the Michigan Shoreline Music Festival at Val-Du-Lakes Amphitheater on the coast of Lake Michigan. They have been invited to play Detroit's annual Conert of Colors music diversity festival for two years running. April of 2003 brought the release of Simplicity's self-titled debut album. The album showcases the band's diverse and eclectic compositions as well as it's amazing ensemble improvisation. This up and coming group is definitely not to be missed.

Satyrica

Satyrica is the brain child of singer/guitarist/songwriter Russell Hallock. Together with bass player Jim Belcher and drummer Aaron Lombardo, they have combined the musical elements of metal and progressive rock, making it much more expressive than the average metal band. The lyrics are inspired by spiritual study and an understanding of the deeper currents of the human psyche. "I like it that you can feel the heaviness of the music in the album but it also tells an epic story", Russell said. "It's from the the point of view that people have moved on from all the old ideologies that our society has so long been based on, and also expressing a new level of awareness that basically says alot of what has been rammed down our throats by the media and the church is all bulls#*t. I'm proud of the diversity in all the subject matter, as well as the music. I have to admit these musicians are great on the album. We all had so much to offer and it really comes out." When asked what music inspires him the most he says, "I love all kinds of music but Rush and Led Zeppelin were initially my biggest inspirations. What they did musically creates so much visually. As far as newer bands go I like Tool, Godsmack and In Flames. I think what we're doing and what they have done are simialar, with that classical Yngwie influence. I like drawing from what has been done and puting my own twist on it." Satyrica are already writing material for their next album which will be entitled "Ritual Eclipse" and have plans for a small tour soon to promote "Memories of the Future". Louis Logic

³It is rumored that he was born trapped inside a beer bottle at an exclusive clinic, the lovechild of a pickled 70's starlet knocked up by a rock star passing through town. Some people say his stomach is coated in stainless steel, and his liver, made of barroom dartboard cork. Still, the most mysterious of his attributes is his uncanny ability to pen an endless number of odes to both alcohol, and the wanton lifestyle that so often accompanies its usage. They call him the Dragon, and the menacing shriek of his song can be heard throughout the expanse of this earthly world.... In 2003, louis released his crowning achievement to date the ³Sin-A-Matic² LP, which was hailed as debut of the year by a number of critics and print and online publications. The album was lead by the single ³Street Smarts² and heated b-side scorcher, ³Diablos² featuring Celph Titled, which even broke into BBC1 commercial radio in the UK. The second single, perhaps the critic and listener favorite ³Idiot Gear² continues to console wayward men everywhere who are foolish enough to delve to deeply into their loved one¹s past sex lives in 2004. New Monsoon

New Monsoon was conceived when former Penn State friends Bo Carper and Jeff Miller became re-acquainted in California . With Carper's rootsy acoustic finger style as a foil for Miller's inspired melodies, the pair sowed the seeds of the New Monsoon sound. With the addition of the tour de force percussion section of drummer Marty Ylitalo, tabla virtuoso Rajiv Parikh, and conguero Brian Carey, the New Monsoon vision started to unfold. During the recording of the band's first album Hydrophonic in early 2001, the band tapped long-time friend Phil "The Pianimal" Ferlino for keyboard tracks. Blown away by the project, Ferlino immediately moved to San Francisco and joined the band on-stage at the 2001 High Sierra Music Festival. Nationwide touring and the band's second album, Downstream, followed in 2003. 2004 delivered bass monster Ben Bernstein, who has helped propel the band to new musical heights

The end result is a vibrant soundscape that critics and fans alike compare to Jurassic 5 and The Roots.

Frank Trio w/Jonezy

St. Patrick's Day Bash! Green beer, DJ's & Frank Trio make this the place to be! Frank Trio is an innovative quartet that blends elements of jazz/funk/rock/hiphop/electronic into a unique and original sound. The band members (drumset/percussion, upright/electric bass, guitar, and keyboards) are all classically trained musicians with degrees in music and years of experience in the music industry. Soaring guitar melodies, rippin organ lines, deep and funky drum beats, and driving bass lines combine with computer generated samples/tones/beats to create a sound that can only be described as Frank Trio.

Mama's Cookin'

Mama’s Cookin’ should be seen and not explained. “They have renewed and brought forth a refreshing taste of what has drawn people to music since the beginning of time. All you need is a pair of ears and some dancing shoes to bare witness to the start of a new revolution of old school funk and blues. This is the genuine thing. The members of Mama's Cookin' are gifted musicians who cultivate an animated atmosphere, leaving in their wake an exodus of fans who want them to encore all night long.” --jambase.com

Carlos Washington & friends of Gravity

From the Greater New Orleans and Baton Rouge area, Andy Bourgeois (Keyboard instruments and Tenor Sax), Tommy Sciple (Acoustic and Electric Basses) and Simon Lott (Drums, Percussion, and Sampler) make up the funky, rocking, improvisational trio Friends of Gravity. The group had their beginnings as an acoustic piano trio, but after playing at jazz and rock clubs alike (most not possessing a piano), the group's sound began to drift from the acoustic tradition. The piano was replaced by B3 organ, Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer, various Synths, and Melodica, the acoustic bass was augmented by an electric six-string bass and effects pedals, the drummer added a sampler to his arsenal of percussion instruments and the band was reborn. The new format was a revelation for the group. It became apparent that with the use of electronic instruments and effects, each instrument was capable of an endless array of texture, alternate sounds and shifting sonic character. It was at this point, the music took form. The band's current mission is to take their unique blend of music all over the country in support of their just released c.d. “Thankful” which includes guest performances by Rex Richardson and Scott Bourgeois.

Warsaw

Warsaw I Poland Bros. have played everywhere, with everyone in most of north america and hawaii. They have released four nationally distributed cds through Burnside Distribution fueled by their own indie start up label, Invisible Mass Records. Their love for live performance and touring has kept them on the road for over eight years. Jumping from town to town, night after night, their hooby-job-lifestyle has been their soul, mantra and reason to share their music. To call this band the hardest working band in the business would be a drastic understatement. With over 300 shows a year, multiple gigs a day and merely days off in between they are true road dogs. They have gone through many changes since the original lineup, but they've never slowed down. Warsaw is the ultimate definition of the DIY attitude, taking everything in-house from booking to engineering and producing their music. Since collaborating with people all over the world and recording in every setting imaginable, from a backsta
